What are the potential side effects of anti wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections is a common treatment. However, there are minor side effects that can occur. This includes slight bruising, localised tenderness at the injection site, slight redness, bumps ( resolve within 10 minutes) and headaches. Uncommon and rare side effects of anti wrinkle injections include ; drooping/ heavy eye lids, uneven eyebrows, asymmetric smile.
How long do anti wrinkle injections last and when will i see results?
There are many factors that affect the longevity of the anti-wrinkle treatment. This includes dose, muscle movement, area, lifestyle, and metabolism.
Forehead: Approximately 6-8 weeks.
Frown and Crows feet: Approximately 3-4 months
Masseters/Jawline slimming: Approximately 3-6 months
Results from your anti-wrinkle injections can be seen from 4 - 14 days.
What are the after care instructions?
Avoid high intensity/ aerobic exercise for 24 hours.
No smoking or drinking alcohol for 24 hours.
Avoid rubbing or massaging the area.
Avoid laying flat on the treated area for 4-6 hours.
No waxing or resurfacing the area.
Do not use ibuprofen, aspirin, fish-oil for 24 hours after the injections
There is a small risk of bruising. If this occurs don’t worry as it is temporary, this is generally minor and can be covered up with makeup. Arnica tablets and hirudoid cream can help reduce the bruising. Your treatment will take 4-7 days to start working and the few results can be seen at two weeks. If you still have more muscle movement than expected, then this can be adjusted at your two weeks follow up at an additional cost.
Who is this treatment NOT suitable for?
Unfortunately this treatment is not suitable if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
If you are under the age of 18 years old (even if you have parental consent).
If you are currently on antibiotics or have an active infection.
What product do you use?
Due to the regulations in Australia, the brand names can’t be mentioned. Here at Next aesthetics, we use two of the major brands in Australia.
How much does anti-wrinkle treatment cost?
The cost of the treatment will vary. This will depend on the area being treated, the strength of the muscles in this area, the aesthetic goal of the patient and the recommended dose by the Registered Nurse.
How often do I need to have treatment?
This will depend on the treatment area. Repeat treatment should occur anywhere from 6- 16 weeks.
Why didn’t my anti-wrinkle treatment last?
The practice of medicine is not an exact science and no guarantee can be or have been made concerning expected results. When the forehead is injected a light dose is used. This means that the treatment will last approx. 6-8 weeks. This also means that movement will slowly start to return a couple of weeks prior to this. Essentially the anti-wrinkle treatment is a medication and the dose required will depend on the strength of your muscles and aesthetic goal. If you are a new patient, the Registered Nurse will only do a minimal amount in the area and if more is needed then this can be done at your two-week review at an additional cost. Please be patient while the correct treatment dose is being established for you. If you are a new patient who has been seen at another location and you have had a break in between treatments ( i.e movement has returned, has been more than 6 months after your last treatment) you may find that the dose you were having previously may need to increase as the ageing process and lifestyle factors continue to impact the skin. This is not to say that your face will be worse than when you started your treatment but understand that it continues to age.
